2018 Kre8tors Blog Hop August Water Theme

Welcome to the August 2018 Kre8tors Blog Hop and this month our theme is water. Our team of Stampin' Up! demonstrators from around the world will be sharing their projects and ideas with you today to help inspire you to create your own projects. You may have just visited Laura's blog or perhaps you are getting started here. I hope that our projects today provide you with some great ideas to help you.

My card today is a very special one as it is the birthday card I designed for my son, who celebrated his birthday on Friday. I just love the platypus image from the Postcard Pals stamp set and I thought it was perfect because of our Australian roots.

The colors I chose for my card design were inspired by water. The card base was created from Coastal Cabana cardstock and I added a layer of Bermuda Bay cardstock. Using the Stitched Seasons Framelits dies item (#149013), I die cut using the smallest label, a piece of Whisper White cardstock for my image. I used the medium size and largest size to create the frame from Coastal Cabana cardstock and I used the medium label to die cut an opening in the Bermuda Bay cardstock layer.

To create the look of water for the background, I used the Seaside Textured Impressions Embossing Folder (item #141481) on the layer of Bermuda Bay cardstock and I created a shimmer effect using the New Frost White Shimmer Paint (a Sneak Peek from the 2018 Holiday Catalog available September 5th) and applied it lightly to the raised areas with a sponge dauber.
To color the image, I used a variety of Stampin' Blend Markers in light and dark colors to help bring him to life. I just love how easy it is to color with these markers and they are so much fun. I used a sponge dauber and Pool Party Classic ink to create the sky background. I also lightly sponged the sky with the Frost White Shimmer Paint to add a little sparkle.

To assemble the card, I adhered the Bermuda Bay cardstock layer to the Coastal Cabana card base with Snail adhesive and then adhered the image piece inside the opening also using Snail Adhesive. I added Mini Dimensionals to the Coastal Cabana frame and adhered it to the card front.

To finish off the card, I heat embossed the sentiment with Silver embossing powder onto a scrap of Whisper White cardstock and punched it out using the Classic Label punch (item #141491) and punched out another shape from a piece of Silver Foil to create the matte. I adhered it to the card front with Mini Stampin' Dimensionals. The balloon was punched out with the Balloon Bouquet Punch using the smallest balloon shape, from Silver Foil and I added a piece of Silver & Whisper White Bakers Twine (item #145569) using Mini Glue dots and attached it to the card front.
I just love how this card turned out and I love the texture and shimmer that helps create the feeling of water. Remember the Stitched Seasons Framelits, as well as the other products in the Color Your Season Promotion, are only available during the month of August or while supplies last, so don't wait to order your set. They are so versatile and can be used with all your other stamping supplies.
