SBTD Blog Hop Father's Day

Welcome to the SBTD (aka Stampers By The Dozen) Blog hop for May. This month's theme is Mother's Day and Father's Day. I decided to focus on Father's Day as it is coming up in a few weeks and I thought it would be nice to share some love for the men in our lives. 

A funny thing happened when I started working on this blog post. I decided to use products from the retiring True Gentleman Suite in the 2018 Occasions Catalog. This suite is perfect for masculine cards and I created my Father's Day card using the Truly Tailored stamp set and the True Gentleman Designer Series Paper pack. I loved that the designer series paper reminded me of a plaid shirt. As the we got closer to the deadline of this blog hop, I realized that the Ture Gentleman Designer Series Paper had sold out and I was faced with a dilemma. So I decided to create a new card and share both of them with you so that you could see how you can create two very different cards using the same stamp set and the same layout.

For this first card, I chose colors from the True Gentleman Designer Series Paper pack to create my card. I chose Tranquil Tide cardstock for the cardbase and the circle matte for the main sentiment. I cut a strip of Night of Navy cardstock, 1 1/2" x 4", and embossed it using the Simple Stripes Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. I stamped the sentiments from the Truly Tailored stamp set onto Very Vanilla cardstock with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and used the Layering Circles framelits dies and the Tailored Tag Punch to cut out the sentiments. The embellishments are Basic Rhinestones colored with the Stampin' Blends Night of Navy Light marker. 

My second card has a very different feel to it and I chose a different color combination. The card base was created using Crumb Cake cardstock and I chose a piece of designer series paper from the Eastern Palace Specialty Designer Series Paper pack. For the cardstock strip, I chose Pear Pizzazz this time and embossed it using the vine embossing folder from the Petal Pear Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. I sponged the cardstock with Pear Pizzazz Classic ink using a Sponge Dauber to bring out the texture of the embossing. The sentiments were stamped on Very Vanilla cardstock and heat embossed with Gold embossing powder. In addition to the Truly Tailored stamp set, I used the Happy Father's Day sentiment from the Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set and punched it out using the Classic Label punch. I used Chocolate Chip cardstock to create mattes for each of the sentiments.

Ink & Share Blog Hop Occasions Catalog

This month on the Ink & Share Blog Hop we will be featuring products from the 2018 Occasions Catalog. This catalog is one of my favorites and it was hard to choose which products I would focus on, as there are so many that I love. 

With Mother's Day just two weeks away and less than 2 months until Father's Day, I chose to showcase the Apron of Love Bundle. I love the fact that this stamp set and coordinating framelit die set can work perfectly for both masculine and feminine projects. Today I will be showing you how I created a Mother's Day card and a Father's Day using this bundle. 

To create the Mother's Day card, I started with a Thick Whisper White card base and added a layer from the Eastern Palace Specialty Designer Series Paper pack (item #144147). I love the Fresh Fig tone on tone stripe of this paper and the texture it provides to this card. The apron was stamped with Fresh Fig Classic ink onto Powder Pink cardstock and die cut with the framelits. I also die cut the neck tie and apron pocket from Powder Pink cardstock. The lace detail around the pocket was created by die cutting a piece of the Fresh Fig striped Designer Series Paper to layer underneath. I stamped the sentiment "Best Ever" with Fresh Fig Classic ink and then added the "Mum/Mom" stamp in Berry Burst Classic ink. (I am from Australia, so I love that the font of this stamp can be interpreted as Mum, which is what I call my wonderful Mum.) 

My favorite part of this card are the cute little baking tools that I die cut from Silver foil. I just love the detail of these adorable die cuts. I attached the tools to the front of the apron with Snail Adhesive and then attached the pocket on top with Stampin' Dimensionals. I layered the apron on top of a Delicate White Doily and attached it to the front of the card. I love all the contrasts of this card that help it to be clean and simple card design feminine card. 

For the Father's Day card, I started with a Night of Navy card base and added a layer of Crumb Cake cardstock that I embossed with the Pinewood Planks 3D Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder (item #143708). I burnished the cardstock with Crumb Cake Classic ink using a sponge dauber to bring out the texture of the wood grain and give it an aged, worn look. This time I die cut the apron from a piece of True Gentleman Designer Series Paper and die cut the neck time and apron strings from Night of Navy cardstock. I also die cut the rectangular pocket from Night of Navy cardstock and heat embossed the sentiment in Silver embossing powder. The barbecue tools were die cut from Silver foil and attached to the apron with Snail adhesive. I then attached the pocket with Stampin' Dimensionals. The mitts were die cut from Night of Navy cardstock and I embossed them with Simple Stripes Textured Impressions Embossing Folder (item #145648). To finish off the card I attached the apron and mitts to the card front with Snail adhesive. The color combination and wood texture of this card design make it perfect for a masculine card. 

One of the best things about a bundle is the fact that you save 10% compared to when you purchase the stamp set and framelits die separately. However, the bundle price will retire at the end of the Occasions Catalog, on May 31st, 2018. If you love this bundle as much as I do, I recommend that you order it before the bundle price expires.

2018 Kre8tors Blog Hop April Color Challenge

Welcome to the 2018 Kre8tors Blog Hop for April and this month's theme is a color challenge featuring Crumb Cake, Powder Pink, Pumpkin Pie, Berry Burst and Wild Wasabi. We have been challenged to use at least 3 of these colors in our project. 

After seeing the inspiration photo for this color combination, I really wanted to try and create a card design that included all 5 colors. I really liked the way the wood grain background looked, so I decided to incorporate it into my card design.

I love the Waterfront stamp set from the 2018 Occasions Catalog and I really liked the idea of using this stamp set to create my card. I die cut an oval from the Stitched Shapes Framelits dies from Whisper White cardstock. I used the various stamps to create the mountains using the Crumb Cake Classic ink and the fields with Wild Wasabi Classic ink in the foreground. Using sponge daubers, I lightly sponged the sky above and around the mountains using Powder Pink Classic ink and then gently sponged the outer edge with Berry Burst Classic ink to create a twilight sky. I created the sun by punching out a small circle from a scrap of paper and using it as a reverse mask, I lightly sponged Pumpkin Pie ink just above the mountains on the right side of the oval. I also lightly sponged the sky to create pale orange highlights in the sky. 

To create the finished card, I used Powder Pink cardstock to create the card base and I embossed a piece of Crumb Cake cardstock using the Pinewood Planks 3D Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder (item #143708) and gently sponged with Crumb Cake Classic ink to bring out the texture in the embossed cardstock. I attached the stamped oval using Stampin' Dimensionals and I created the sentiment using the Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set, heat embossed with Gold embossing powder onto Whisper White cardstock. I punched out the sentiment with the Classic Label Punch (item #141491) and matted it with Powder Pink cardstock also punched out with the Classic Label Punch. 

I love the softness of this card design and had a lot of fun playing with the variety of colors to come up with this scenic card.

SBTD February Blog Hop Critters

Welcome to the SBTD Stampers By the Dozen) February Blog Hop and this month we are featuring critters of all shapes and sizes. I love this month's theme and I had a hard time narrowing down my choices as there are so many wonderful critters to choose from. I hope you will enjoy the two cards that I finally chose to share.

Both of the cards I have chosen were favorites of my customers at my recent card class. They loved creating the fox with punch art using the Fox Builder Punch (item #141470) and we had fun coloring the sweet hedgehog using Stampin' Blends. Both cards have so many possibilities and can be used for a multiple occasions.

My first card shows how critters can be created using punches for a fun card. The Fox Builder punch is one of my favorites and coordinates perfectly with the Foxy Friends stamp set (p104 2017-2018 Annual Catalog) to provide the face and legs as well as a variety of other images to help you create a variety of other critters. I chose the fox because it tied in with the sentiment from the Truly Tailored stamp set (p45 2018 Occasions Catalog) which coordinates with the Tailored Tag Punch (item #145667) and when purchased as a bundle, saves you 10%. 

To create the fox, I chose Cajun Craze carstock for the body and Whisper White cardstock for the accent pieces. I stamped the face and legs with Tuxedo Black Memento ink and then assembled the fox with Snail Adhesive and a Mini Dimensional to attach the head to the body. So cute and so easy to put together.

For the card base I chose Smoky Slate cardstock and added a layer of Tranquil Tide cardstock that I embossed using the vine embossing folder from the Petal Pair Textured Impressions Embossing Folders (item #145656 $9.00) in the 2018 Occasions Catalog. I loved the textured it added to the card without being too busy. The banner was created using Night of Navy cardstock and I created the banner end using the Banner Triple Punch (item #138292 p206 in the 2017-2018 Annual Catalog).  I attached the fox to a circle of Smoky Slate cardstock punched out with the 2" Circle Punch (item #133782) and then attached the circle to the Night of Navy banner.

To finish off the card, I stamped the sentiment in Tranquil Tide Classic ink and punched it out with the Tailored Tag Punch. I also stamped the sentiment a second time in Cajun Craze Classic ink and fussy cut the small fox image with my Paper Snips and attached it to the sentiment with a Mini Dimensional. I centered the sentiment below the banner and attached it with Snail adhesive. 

This makes a wonderful masculine card and you can have fun playing around with different sentiments and different punch art critters to create a variety of cards for the men in your life.

My second card focused more on fun with stamps and ink using the Hedgehugs stamp set from the 2018 Occasions Catalog. There are so many cute images in this stamp set that it is hard to choose just one. I stamped the image with Soft Suede Classic ink onto Whisper White cardstock and colored him with the light and dark Crumb Cake Stampin' Blends markers and the light Rich Razzleberry Stampin' Blend marker for the flower. The sentiment was stamped with Versamark ink and heat embossed with Gold embossing powder. I added a layer of Real Red cardstock as a matte to make it pop. 

I created this card with Valentine's Day in mind but it really can be used for a variety of occasions. I used Real Red cardstock for the card base and I embossed a layer of Crumb Cake cardstock with the Pinewood Planks 3D Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing folder (item #143708). To bring out the wood grain, I sponged it with Crumb Cake Classic ink to give it a worn, aged look. 

I love the simplicity of this card design and so I decided not to add any embellishments. Sometimes clean and simple is best.
