Crafty Collaborations Monochromatic Color Challenge Week 27 - Old Olive

Welcome to Week 27 of the Crafty Collaborations Monochromatic Color Challenge. This week we are showcasing Old Olive from the Regals Collection and for my design, I chose a clean and simple card using the Spotlight on Nature Bundle.

Creating clean and simple card designs can be challenging and I wanted to show how you could use both the stamp set and coordinating dies to create a simple design that has subtle details to help step it up to the next level.

For my clean and simple card, I chose to create a one layer design that helps to showcase the versatility of Old Olive. This wonderful green is perfect for cards for all seasons and today I chose to create Summer themed Thank You card. I used one of the detailed circle dies from the coordinating Spotlight on Nature Dies to create my mask with printer paper and applied a soft, even layer of Old Olive Classic ink using a Blending Brushed using the negative space onto Very Vanilla cardstock. Once I had achieved the color I wanted, I inserted the detailed circle back inside the negative space and then gently applied more Old Olive Classic ink over the top to get the detail onto my background. Next, I stamped the detailed leaves image from the Spotlight on Nature stamp set onto the masked circle using Old Olive Classic ink to create a beautiful tone on tone design. I also stamped the sentiment to complete the design. To help step up the card, I colored a piece of the Silver & White Sheer Ribbon with the Dark Old Olive Stampin' Blends Marker and added it to the bottom of the card front, attaching it with Mini Glue Dots to the back. To complete the card design, I added several Adhesive Backed Dragonflies for a touch of bling. I love the softness of this design and how it showcases the different shades of Old Olive and how they all work together.

Paper Pumpkin Possibilities July Blog Hop Fun In The Sun

Let's enjoy some Summer fun with the Paper Pumpkin Possibilities July Blog Hop. Our wonderful Design Team will be sharing their alternative projects and ideas using the Fun In The Sun Kit and I can't wait to see what everyone has created this month. 

I was so excited to get this month's kit and I decided that I wanted to create my alternative design using one of the negative pieces to create a sunset beach scene. There is just something so relaxing and peaceful about watching the sun set over the ocean and I wanted to try and capture that with my card design. I chose to use the negative from the Umbrella foreground die cut and with some creative masking, I was able to achieve the look I wanted. Instead of using black for the silhouette look, I chose to use Pebbled Path Classic ink, one of my favorite new 2023-2025 In Colors. It provides a wonderful contrast against the ocean and sky, creating that feeling of being in the shadows.

For this card design, I wanted to keep things pretty simple, allowing the colors and images to tell the story. Using my trusty Post-It notes, I masked off a horizon on the card front and created the ocean with a Blending Brush using Orchid Oasis Classic ink. I just love this beautiful blue and I thought it was the perfect color for this time of the day. I then flipped the Post-It note and added a half circle to mask the sun, to create the sky. I started with Daffodil Delight Classic ink, adding layers of color with a Blending Brush and then switched to Calypso Coral Classic ink to deepen the color, blending from the top down to the horizon to create that beautiful sunset glow. Next, I removed the mask for the sun and replaced it with the reverse mask to add color to the sun, beginning with Daffodil Delight and then adding some Crushed Curry to deepen the color. I wanted to add some texture to the ocean, so I chose to use one of the texture images from the Inked & Tiled stamp set to give the appearance of gentle waves. I then went back over the ocean with Orchid Oasis Classic ink and the Blending Brush to soften the stamped waves so the lines weren't so harsh. 

To create the silhouette, I positioned the negative with the umbrella in the position I wanted on my card front and masked off the rest with Post-It notes. I filled in the area with Pebbled Path Classic ink using a Blending Brush to create a solid shadow. I then repositioned the negative to create the beach foreground and again used Post-It notes for placement and masking. I filled in the area to create the beach once again using Pebbled Path Classic ink and a Blending Brush. To add some interest and detail to the beach, I used one of the foliage stamps from the Oceanfront stamp set to create seagrass and added the starfish from the exclusive stamp set in the kit to the base of the umbrella. For the sentiment, I stamped the image with Pebbled Path Classic ink and embellished it with two of the Pebbled Path In Color Dots. As I was finishing, I noticed that there was a spot of ink on my ocean that didn't belong, so I used the Pebbled Path Stampin' Write Marker to turn it into a sea gull and added several more to complete the design and advert near disaster. I layered the card front onto a Basic White cardstock layer and then onto the Orchid Oasis card base to create a slim border that helps make the focal design pop.

Stamping With Friends Masking Technique Blog Hop

Welcome to the Stamping With Friends Masking Technique Blog Hop as our Design Team members showcase projects using a variety of masking techniques. Masking is a wonderful way to help take your projects to the next level. 

For my card design today, I chose to create a vintage style Anniversary card using the Wonderful World stamp set from the Wonderful World Bundle, which is an exclusive Sale-a-bration product you can earn free with a qualifying order. I love the images in this stamp set and I thought they would be perfect for the design for my masking technique. I also chose to use the new Masking Paper that Stampin' Up! released in the 2022-2023 Annual Catalog and I love how the repositionable adhesive on the back of the paper, makes it simple to place the mask in place and not have to worry about it moving while applying ink with the blending brushes or when stamping the images. This soft and pretty card design would also work well as a special birthday card or even a sympathy card.

This vintage card design has a wonderful old world feel to it and I love that the masked area looks like aged vintage wallpaper. To create the look, I torn the piece of Masking Paper into two pieces (down the middle of the 4" side) and placed the torn edges towards the center of the Very Vanilla cardstock, leaving a large panel in the center. I then added color to the exposed panel with Blending Brushes, starting with Blushing Bride, then adding a small amount of Polished Pink around the edges and finally using Crumb Cake ink to tone down the brightness of the pinks and add an antique feel to the design. I then stamped the rose image from the Wonderful World stamp set randomly over the panel using Crumb Cake ink, making sure to overlap the torn edge of the Masking Paper. I then added the small leaves in some of the spaces around the edge to finish off the design. Next, I gently peeled the Masking Paper off of the Very Vanilla cardstock to create the finished design. To embellish the card front, I added two 3/8" x 4" strips of Gold Metallic Specialty Paper to the top and bottom edge of the card front and then added the two strips of 1/4" x 4" Gold Metallic Specialty Paper, approx. 1/4" from the 3/8" strips. I love how these strips frame the focal design and add to the vintage feel of the card design. 

For the inside of the card, I repeated the process on the Very Vanilla cardstock layer, but this time I placed the Masking Paper diagonally across from the corners so that the straight edges overlapped in the center. I repeated the same color combination for the blending and stamped the same images with Crumb Cake Classic ink to recreate the same look as the card front. I decided not to add a sentiment to the inside of the card and adhered it to the inside of the card base. For the sentiment label, I die cut a stitched rectangle with the Stitched Rectangles Dies from Crumb Cake cardstock and heat embossed the sentiment from the Celebrating You stamp with Gold embossing powder. I aged the label by blending Crumb Cake ink around the stitched edges with a Blending Brush before adhering it to the card front using Stampin' Dimensionals. To finish off the design, I added several small and large Brass Brushed Butterflies to the card front for a touch of bling.
