Vintage Techniques Blog Hop

Welcome to the Technique Tuesday January Blog Hop as we showcase Vintage techniques to help create beautiful projects. Our team will be sharing their wonderful projects and ideas to help inspire you to try new techniques and products.
For my vintage card design, I chose to use the Hydrangea Haven Bundle with its delicate line images and wonderful textured background stamps that help to create a watercolor look. I paired it with the Timeworn Type 3D Embossing Folder to add subtle texture to the background behind the hydrangea. For my vintage technique, I chose sponging as I love how it creates a distressed, aged look to projects. I sponged the edges of my Crumb Cake card base to give it the look of an old, vintage card and I also sponged the embossed Crumb Cake background layer to bring out the detail of the embossing. I used Crumb Cake Classic ink for the sponging on both and I love the tone on tone look it gives.

When I think of vintage style designs, I often think of beautiful florals with soft colors and aged, worn details. One of my favorite flowers is the hydrangea and it has special significance as it reminds me of my mother-in-law, who passed away almost 10 years ago. She would have had her birthday last week and I wanted to create a card design in her memory. I love the wonderful images and sentiments in the Hydrangea Haven stamp set and I was able to use quite a few of them to create this design. For the background on the Fresh Freesia cardstock, I stamped one of the smaller line floral images with Fresh Freesia Classic ink to create a tone on tone pattern. I didn't want the images to be perfect but rather to have some variation so that it appeared that some of the pattern was worn and faded. Sponging is one of my favorite techniques and I often use it to age and distress my projects when I want to create a vintage feel to the design. For this card, I sponged the edge of the front of the card base to add definition and I sponged the embossed layer to help give an aged look to the Crumb Cake cardstock. For the hydrangea, I stamped the line image with Soft Suede Classic ink onto Very Vanilla cardstock and then stamped the floral background with a mix of Fresh Freesia and Highland Heather Classic inks to create depth and dimension. For the leaves, I used Pear Pizzazz Classic ink to give them a faded look and I colored the entire image with Clear Wink of Stella to give it a touch of shimmer. I die cut the hydrangea out with the coordinating die from the Hydrangea Dies and attached it to the embossed layer with Stampin' Dimensionals. For the sentiment, I stamped the image with Soft Suede Classic ink onto the Very Vanilla label and attached it to the embossed layer with Stampin' Dimensionals. To embellish the card, I added two of the Brushed Brass Butterflies to add a vintage feel to the design and I tied a small bow with the Fresh Freesia Open Weave ribbon and attached it to the stem of the hydrangea with a Mini Glue Dot. I love the look and feel of this beautiful card design and I would like to think that my mother-in-law would appreciate it too.
