Stamping With Friends January Blog Hop What Is Old Is New Again

Happy Saturday everyone. It's time to hop along with the Stamping With Friends January Blog Hop with our theme of "What Is Old Is New Again". Our wonderful design team will be sharing their projects and ideas to help you take projects that you have made in the past and recreate them with new products to come up with a fresh new card design. It's a great way to spark your creativity and help you get crafty for 2024. 

For my "new" card design, I decided to CASE a card I created back in August using the Fractured Card technique. You can see the post for this project here. As you can see from the photo of my "old" card below, I chose to use a piece of the Delightfully Eclectic Designer Series Paper to create the design. The Basic Black cardstock framed the Fresh Freesia and White to create a very bold, dramatic card design.

For my "new" version of this card design, I chose to use one of the beautiful designs from the Flight & Airy Designer Series Paper, a Level 1 Sale-a-bration Reward you can earn Free with a qualifying $50 order. To create the contrast for my card, I chose to use Misty Moonlight cardstock, one of my favorite colors, to help frame the focal design and make it pop. In addition, I chose to use the new Perennial Postage Dies from the January-April 2024 Mini Catalog to add some interest to the center die cut and the sentiment label. I love how soft and pretty this card looks and how different it is from the original card I created in August.

This pretty card design is simple to create and works for a variety of occasions. The Fractured card technique is a great way to step up a clean and simple card design to add that simply Wow factor and it is a great way to showcase beautiful designer series paper. When I die cut the focal image from the card front layer, I focused on the bird image in the design and tried to center the die to get the bird in the best position. I layered the die cut focal image onto a Misty Moonlight square that is slightly larger, to provide some stability and a slight border around the edge. I added this square to the center of the Basic White square using Stampin' Dimensionals and then added this square over the opening in the center of the card front layer to cover it. To create the "fracture" look, I added 1/4" strips of Misty Moonlight cardstock around the Basic White square, adhering them to the card front and then trimming the excess edges flush with the edges of the card front. I then added the card front to the Misty Moonlight card base, making sure to center it. For the sentiment, I heat embossed the image from the Inked & Tiled stamp set with Gold embossing powder onto Basic White cardstock and die cut it out with one of the Perennial Postage Dies. I also die cut one of these labels from Misty Moonlight cardstock and cut it half and attached it to the back of the sentiment label to create a mat layer. To finish off the design, I added several Misty Moonlight gems for a touch of bling. So, which card do you like better? The old or the new?

ICS August Blog Hop Technique Showcase

 

It's time to hop along with the August ICS Blog Hop as we showcase different techniques to help inspire you to get creative. Our wonderful Design Team members we be sharing projects and ideas featuring different techniques to help spark your creativity. 

Today's card features a technique that I just learned recently from watching a Facebook Live video by fellow Stampin' Up! Demonstrator, Karen Titus. She called it a Fractured Card because the background looks like it has been fractured into smaller pieces. It is a wonderful technique for using up your designer series paper and cardstock strip scraps to create beautiful cards. For my card design, I chose to use one of the designs from the Delightfully Eclectic Designer Series Paper and the sentiment was created with the Timeless Arrangements Bundle, As you can see, this is a simple card design that bold look to it that helps the designer series paper stand out.

The Fracture Card technique is so much fun and it really is simple to create, just by following a few basic steps. 

1. Choose your background. It can be a solid color cardstock or a piece of designer series paper. 

2. Choose what color you want to use for the card base and strips to create the design. It is best to choose a color with a strong contrast to your background to maximize the look of the fractures on the card front. For my design, I chose to use a bold Black and White floral with Fresh Freesia for the background and I chose to use Basic Black cardstock for the card base and strips for the fracture design. 

3. Die cut the smaller square from the center of the designer series paper diagonally, using the Stylish Shapes Dies, to create the focal image the card design (you could choose to use a stamped image or other design for this square). 

4. Layer the focal square onto a slightly larger square of Basic White cardstock using Stampin' Dimensionals to pop it up. I then attached the square to the center of the designer series paper, also diagonally, so that it covered the hole created from the original die cut. 

5. Add the black strips around the focal square. Starting on one side, I added one strip at a time, allowing the strips to hang over the edge of the card front, until all four sides are covered. It should resemble a pinwheel when you are done and the center square will have a frame around it. 

6. Turned the card front over and trimmed the excess strips off in line with the edge of the designer series paper. 

7. Attach the completed card front to the Basic Black card base. 

8. Heat emboss the sentiment onto the Basic Black label using White embossing powder and add it to the card front with Stampin' Dimensionals.

9. Add embellishments to complete the design. I chose to use Black Matte Dots to embellish the card front, including the center of the focal flower. 
The great thing about this technique is that no two cards will look the same. I am not normally a fan of bold, bright floral designs but I must admit, I love how this technique makes this beautiful paper pop.
